Everything you need to know about Super Collectors & the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS)
South Australia’s Container Deposit Scheme has been in effect since 1977, with a 10-cent refund on empty beverage containers. To support a large number of can and bottle recycling options, the majority of approved containers are Category B containers, which can be returned to an approved Collection Depot for reimbursement. To learn more about which beverage containers covered under the CDS and approved collection depot locations refer to SA EPA website.
A Super Collector is an entity who collects, handles, and delivers for reuse, recycling, containers received from Collection Depots, and Kerbside Recovery Centres (MRF’s).
So what exactly is a Super Collector?
A Super Collector essentially transports, , processes, and compacts containers received from approved Collection Depots for reuse or recycling.
Beverage Manufacturers and/or Wholesalers must have a Waste Management Arrangement commonly referred to as a WMA (contractual arrangement) with a Super Collector to sell products in SA and NT. As part of these contractual arrangements, the Super Collector recovers the cost of the CDS, including the 10-cents from Beverage Manufacturers and/or Wholesalers . The Super Collector also has contractual agreements with Collection Depots and reimburse the CDS cost including 10-cents.
In the case of Statewide Recycling, we function as a facility that physically handles and processes containers that are returned to collection depots for a refund. The beverage containers are subsequently sold to end processors after being sorted into material types (for example, aluminium, , PET, HDPE, and liquid paper board).
Our responsibility as a Super Collector
